Director’s Note
In recent years, Brazil has undergone profound transformations, marked by the rise of radical and polarizing discourses. Concepts such as truth and lies have become flexible and relative. Politics is driven by fear, reflected in collective paranoia and violence. Predatory exploitation of nature intensifies, becoming official policy. Consequently, land grabbers and miners feel free to invade protected areas and indigenous lands.
Inspired by this context and its delirious atmosphere, I decided to make a film that blurs the line between reality and the uncanny. In "Mother of Gold", after a remote village is invaded by miners, a woman begins receiving deathly messages from nature through premonitory dreams. Like a strange and mysterious tale, the film is a dark song about this woman’s rite of passage, as she must learn to trust her instincts amid a turbulent and delirious time—a period in which absolutely anything seems possible.
