Project in development

Until the 19th century, Brazil maintained a public institution to imprison and punish enslaved people, known as the Calabouço, later destroyed and buried in Rio de Janeiro. Yet the practices once carried out there still resonate within Brazil’s current prison system. From the remnants that remain, its memory can be unearthed.
